i am on the fourth day of treating ick and it was supposed to be a two day treatment.

i noticed that the newest fish i put in my 46 gallon has ick...a male betta. i treated the 46 gallon for two days and he still didn't improve, usually the ick falls off and is gone,

so i took him out and put him in a 5 gallon by h imself and have treated it for 2 more days and he is still icky! all over him actually.
i can't understand why they are still hanging on.

i'm using quick cure, turns the water blue and has always worked before.

i do not have a heater in the 5 gallon, would a heater be advisable? or any other solutions?
i'm afraid i might lose this fish if i can't get this ick gone quick!

ick-ich..whatever :)

Alright, I would heat the water, because if it is ich it cannot survive long in higher temperatures....

However, this may not be ich... but velvet which looks very similiar but does not have the pimply appearance and the spots are slightly smaller. So, I would add some salt to the water for many purposes such as relieving stress and also helping to treat ich..and or velvet which is a fungal infection. Also, keep his water very clean, IMO this helps to speed up the healing process.

With "Velvet" or other single-cell ectoparasites, you can't see any individual parasites at all, unless you have a microscope. Only Ich swells up to be visible in its last stage.

Water changes are recommended before each re-dosing, to reduce organics. With a betta you could move him into completely fresh water each day, leaving any tomites behind.

Warmth is good, and a betta can stand the heat,

If you can't remember when you bought a formalin/malachite green medication, it's wise to buy again fresh.

We'll assume you've checked all the info at skepticalaquarist.com on ich ;)

well, i bought new medicine thinking that might help, but still nothing.
raised the temp also.

i can't think of anything else to do!
