ick question

My platies are having ick right now, so I bought QuICK Cure made by Aquarium Products to cure them. In the direction, it says I should "add one drop per gallon daily until cured on all fish except those of the Tetra group," and then it has specific instruction for tetras, "add 1 drop for every 2 gallons." There are also a couple neon tetras inside my tank along with the sick platies, but the neon tetras are in perfect health. Should I add one drop per gallon daily or should I add 1 drop for every 2 gallons?

are you using "a couple" as a loose term? or are there actually 2 neon tetras? If there are only 2 you can just stay with the 1 DPG (drop per gallon). If there are more, then you should probably do about 1.5 DPG's, because ick can quickly spread and infect the neons.

Follow the directions, even if there is only like one neon, just to be on the safe side. If you would like some more info on Ich click here

Whenever treating a tank with meds that has specific instructions for a particular fish that you happen have in the tank.

You always follow the special directions. For that particular fish. Unless you plan on using a hospital tank or removing the fish that needs the special attention.

Or

You will then have cured sick fish but dead other fish.

In this case treat the tank with the tetra instructions. It may take a little longer but.........

Similar cases have happend. IE treating with salt when you have scaless fish.
Safe than sorry is ALWAYS the best route to take.

Agree with NJ and Scott (mostly). Though Aaron has a point about spreading and I have had ich get out of hand using 1/2 dose (though it was probably already out of hand)! So, personally, I treat with the 1/2 dose the first day, and then full dose thereafter (even with salt!). I've done this with tetras, loaches, pleco with no ill effects. My disclaimer is that I wasn't using a med containing malachite green which I think Quick Cure has. Whichever other active ingredient (other than formalin) is in it, you may want to research. I hope I didn't confuse anyone! Good luck!
