My lfs got this in with some other fish, which I was able to ID. However, I know these 'algae eaters' can be tricky... Help would be appreciated in IDing this guy.

looks like it might be a poorly marked CAE to me.. also, is there something going on at the base of the pectoral fins?

Well, he's not the "good" SAE, siamensis or altrimes, might be 1 of many "lesser" saes, those reddish lips should be a hint...Did you check pinkertd's thread in bottom feeders?

The color looks like a flying fox to me, but the mouth seems different, which is why I am confused.

could it be a cross between a CAE and a Golden algae eater? would explain the slight colour tints in the fins and the slightly different markings? just a longshot thought
