Shown in another thread, but deserves its own. What the heck is this? Is it an anemone? I am talking about the tentacled beast in the center of the 2nd pic. It is about 1.5 inches diameter currently.

Thank you for your expertise!

if i know what u mean yes it is a nem...what kind is a bit hard at school without my book with like 100 nem species in it....it resembles a sebae nem...but then looks to ruffly...i wana say fire nem...but that would be bad...ill have to look when i get off school to be sure because i cant remember all things of the top of my head...hopefully maybe someone else might be near a book of will know off their memory.

As I said in the other thread my LFS calls them mushroom nems, as they sometimes lay flat and look like a shroom.

My question is "Do I want it to survive?"

Or take it back to the fish store or give to a friend (if I can get it off the rock)

Let me clarify my stance:

Will it hurt the other stuff on the rock?

If it is not going to hurt anything I will keep it. If it will hurt where it is at but poses no real long term threat in a 14 gallon tank in another location, how do I move it?

If it is just a bad idea to have in a tank of only 14 gallons, how do I move it/rid myself of it?

I love the thing personally. Feeding it is fun. :spam:

personally, i would not keep it in a 14gal tank....if you want to remove it, you have to be very carefull not to tear the foot...either try sliding yout nail under the foot slowly to get it to release..or increase the flow over the nem, and hopefully it will move to find a better spot...when it does move, remove from the tank...

Hope that helps a little

Niko

well ok im finally home and ive looked it up...looks like Phymanthus muscosus
they are "reef safe" they like to stay in sand and will sometimes be hosted by O clowns. they stay on the smaller side but like niko said a 14 gallon seems just a bit to small. they are the type that can survive well under lower lighting but like all nems they really only do best under strong lights.
