I picked it up at my LFS. The owner told me it was mixed in a shipment of other cats she recently gotten. I figured it would probably never sell because it wasn't very outstandish, and I was looking for a new cat, so she hooked me up with a cheap deal since she didn't know what it was. It was hanging out with another school of cats (probably what it was mixed in with) that looked nothing like it. It's TINY right now, maybe an inch. Thanks!

Looks a bit like a juvenile bullhead. Is the caudal fin sort of squarish?

That's what I was guessing when I got home...and yes the caudal fin is squarish...what's the growth rate on these things? Anybody know? He's in my 40breeder for now...

Ah hah, found the different species and maximum sizes...still dunno which one I have...oh well, if it survives that long, I'll hafta setup a Monster tank...just another reason for additional tank setups ;)

Snail Bullhead (Ameiurus brunneus) 11”
White Catfish (Ameiurus catus) 3’
Brown Bullhead (Ameiurus nebulosus) 21”
Black Bullhead (Ameiurus melas) 25”
Yellow Bullhead (Ameiurus natalis) 18”
Flat Bullhead (Ameiurus platycephalus) 11”
Spotted Bullhead (Ameiurus serracanthus) 11”

It's not a white or a yellow, and I'm pretty sure it's not a flat. He will grow pretty fast, depending of course on how much you feed him. Year-old fish of the larger species are generally 6-10" in length.

Thats a black bullhead Im fairly certain as I catch them all the time and see the littles ones schooling together in early spring.
