Where did you get it? At first glance it looks like a Hobbseus species, but I don't know of any Hobbseus in your area.

I got it from a local pond. There are all kinds of them there. I've got 2 of them and they're about 5" long each. They were eating Anachris out of my tank.

My best guess without the specimen in hand is that it's an oddly-colored red swamp crayfish, Procambarus clarki. Is that individual typical of the ones you find in the pond? P. clarki are usually red-and-black mottled.

Yes, both of the crays that I have are identical in color. Their carapace has a powder blue hue to it and they have the orange spots on their tails. Their claws have orange tips with black shading directly behind the orange tip.

I've seen a lot of crays before, but never any colored like this.

It is an odd one. The narrow claws are the main reason I think it's a Procambarus, and the pond habitat points to P. clarki, but the coloration is very unusual.

I'm going back to that pond tomorrow. Maybe I'll catch some with different patterns.

From the link you sent Reframer, they look similar to Orconectes propinquus. Maybe the young are supposed to have the blue hue to the carapace? Maybe they'll lose their blueness and black once they age a little? Don't know. Thanks for the link though.

the claws are all wrong for Orconectes and most like cooler water than what's in a pond unless it's deep
