Drat! I know that fish! From when I was a kid, and I cannot summon the name well enough to track it down. AAAAARRRRGH!

Connecticut, but I remember seeing this fish (or one very like it) in a public aquarium.
 
Could be, it definitely isn't found in Connecticut! Or anywhere else north of the equator.
 
Hmm, stumped. I have it down to two likely families, but I have a thing I am working right now, so I can't be systematic about it until later.

Well, with the tiny scales and the long dorsal and the forward position of the pelvic fins, I was looking at cod or southern cod or some sort (think not less of me that I don't gop look up the latin just now) that's probably way off, but the first thing that popped into my head when I saw that was "That looks like a young tomcod. But it couldn't be."
 
Wrong order let alone family!
