I just discovered a rather large centrepede looking worm, I will try to get a photo, however my macro lens is not the greatest and this thing is skittish. It is about the size of a pencil lead and anywhere from 4cm up ( i only saw 4cm of it) it has heaps of tiny legs, whiskers like a catfish around its head,cream-light brown in colour and a pinkish stripe down the middle of it back running the length of its body. any thoughts? i hadn't seen it before last night.

Normal bristle worm?

Looks almost like a phyllodocid from the very few features I can make out, which wouldn't be good. That's only a guess without any sort of better photo.

i checked out Phylodocidae pics and yep, that looks like it. i hadn't seen it until now and its been going for just over 6months. i don't want to remove the rock its in because its got the best fan worms and some coral came on the rock too. freaky looking thing though.

I can't say I blame you on the rock. Just look for it and catch it if it is possible. That being said, I had one or two phyllodocids in my old tank for a long, long time without any serious side effects. Some of the smaller faunal (worm) populations may have been smaller than they could've been, but it wasn't enough to be a problem.
