ideal gal tank set up ?

Saltwater isn't cheap.
I must've put about two grand into my 60 so far, with the tank/stand, LR, sand, water, equip, fish, food, additives, corals, etc... Definately cheaper if you're skipping the last one on the list, however, thought I'd do that too and couldn't resist. Too pretty to. :D Good luck with your tank. I second the recommendation for the Aqua C Remora line-up, mine seems to be working fine for me.

I do things a little different than most. I think you posted this on another board also, so this may sound familar.

I use live sand and live rock. I use play sand from Lowe's or Home depot - much cheaper than from an LFS. I use base rock forabout 1/2 to 3/4 of the rock. Try www.hirocks.com for the base rock. I use different types of LR however I would use www.tampabaysaltwater.com (TBS) in your situation.

I would use 2 of the Emperor 400s and try to returm the prizim. I have tanks with the Emperor 400s with and with out the bio-wheels. I see no difference in the tanks. I now use the bio-wheels as with them there is less salt creep.

Do not buy CustomSeaLife lights - they have gone out of business so the warranty is no good. I use Coralife Aqualights from www.marineandreef.com

You will have to cycle the tank. And you will have to get some live sand from either TBS or a friends tank. You can also get detrivores from one of these places www.ipsf.com or www.inlandaquatics.com

You can use uncured and cure it yourself in the tank.

will there be a differance in quality ? will there be less interesting things growing on thr rock ? what is the differance in price ? maybe a buying a combination of the two would be a good option for me ? i just don't know if i a ready to spend 900 plus shipping on 150 pounds of "rock"

http://www.tampabaysaltwater.com/ and http://www.gulf-view.com/ seem to have very interesting LR but at 6 bucks at pound ...... I guess i am willing to spend the $1,000 but i would really like to look at my other options if i can.

I would use 100 pounds of base rock from www.hirocks.com and the rest from www.tampabaysaltwater.com (TBS) shipped airport to airport and then go pick it up at the airport.

The uncured becomes cured in your tank. They have to cure it the same as you (except for the TBS rock). Most LFS cure the same as you. If it is shipped LR not shipped under water it is almost uncured LR again by the time you get it IMO.

Here's a couple of things I did to save money. I don't regret either which is more than I can say about some of the other decisions I've made setting up my tank.

I purchased rock from hi-rock. It has great character, and I think more interesting than a lot of rock I've seen. I am getting ready to add some Marshall from my LFS.

I used a live sand activator to seed my Wal-mart playsand (what they sell in VA is packaged by Old Castle in PA) I used GARF's grunge www.garf.org as my activator. They ship next day and were extremely helpful. There are others who sell activators. I used GARF becomes it comes from their tanks. I didn't have to worry about unwanted hitchhikers.

Good luck.
