Ideas please!!!

If memory serves, 56 COLUMN is 30 X 18 X 24 & Oceanic 58 G was 36 x 18 x 21.

I never trusted MDF/particle board as stand around water. SOmething to consider.

Although big enough volume wise, not long enough for discus in long term.

As far as AC goes, not big enough for most malawians but doable with most Tang rock/shell dwellers.

Yeah I see now looking at the picture she posted more that the tank isn't too wide. I guess I was imagining it a little wider.

Yeah a wide tank with a bigger footprint would be nice, but I'm already gonna have to move stuff around to make room. Would love a 150gal but I'm in an apartment and it would be a lot of hassle. Plus the weight! I'm pretty sure my building is super sturdy and could handle it but I would still worry (its a 24 story).

IMO, you could do rainbows which would be cool, but that tank would be a SICK reef tank!! Good luck and let us know what you decide!!!

Opps. You are right!! It is not the Marineland version of the Oceanic.
Loosing that 6" in length changes everything.

I agree===too small for discus and larger Africans.

30" length tank is very limited for "larger" fish. Sorry. :(

Aquarium starter

Aquarium keeping is simple and rewarding but for starter it needs keen observation and fast action. I never change water in my aquarium but add water only when level is low. and water remained clear even after 6 months. The objective in start up is to establish nitrifying bacteria as early as possible. This covert byproduct into harmless amonium. Avoid complete washing of equipment , avoid changing water 100%, 10 t0 15% change is ok. Buy and add instant live nitrifying bacteria follow instruction. keep ready this anti flagillae or anti protozoan tablet on hand. Recomended is clout tablet, follow instruction. Add this tablet on the fist day. New fish on the tank are full of stress and don't eat and become weak. They are attacked by flagella and protozoan easily on early days. Your fish will gradually adjust. These tablet can be added on the following weeks as needed.

I have seen this tank. Looks like a 58gal Oceanic in size.

Why not try Africa Cichlids??

THAT's the route I was going to suggest. But you can't get GOOD ones at petco/petsmart, you have to pretty much ORDER them.

I hate the ASSORT African Cichlid sign on their tanks

???
I'm just confused on what this has to do with my question... I know how to cycle a tank....

I have the exact same tank. I put my Oscar in it , but then again I bought it especially for him. I would never suggest an oscar though,if what you want is an assortment of fancy fish just try your local mom-n-pop fish store (one with a good name in the community) and ask questions. I guarantee you can find a few fish you like, then go from there, such as water temp, territorial/or not, aggressive/or not, how many gals each fish will need when they are full grown.
