Guys I need some ideas for a 12g eclipse tank that is empty but just begging for fish. I have a betta in a 5g, corys in a 10g, Tangs in a 90 g, and SA/CA in a 120 g. I just don't know what to try in this 12g! I've been into cichlids for a long time and wanted to try something different, any ideas?

If I had a 12g sitting around, I would start a species tank with 4 or 5 dwarf puffers. They are great little guys. You can keep them with otos or ADFs. Here's a blurb from dwarfpuffers.com:

"Dwarf Puffers are very interesting, intelligent and active fish. They learn to recognize their owner and will come to the glass to see what you're up to whenever you're in the room. They also will beg for food (they even learn what the container looks like) or follow your finger around the glass. If you put your hand in the tank, they will have to be right by it at all times. It's as if they have to know exactly what you're doing! You also have to be careful when siphoning water from the tank, because their curiosity will sometimes lead them a little too close to the siphon tube! I've sucked one up a time or two and had to rescue them from the bucket! These little guys have tons of personality and are by far one of the most fun fish to own :)"

Just make sure it is heavily planted (fake or real) so that they can each stake out their own little territory.

If your into cichlids what about shell dwellers? you should be able to keep a nice colony in a 12gal tank.

How bout' an asian tank, something along the lines of this:

1 drawf gourami or betta
6 rasboras or danios or non-nippy barbs(your pick of species, but confined to the smaller species, no more than 1.5- 2 inches long)
3 red crystal, bumble bee or amano shrimp

The red crystal/bumblebee shrimp are a pretty expensive shrimp (about $50 each) the betta and gourami would more than likely eat them. The amano's are cheaper at around $5 each and are a little more aggressive so they may be ok. This is the second time I've seen you post about keeping shrimp in the same tank with gourami's it more than likely will not work. If the adults didn't get eaten the shrimplets would. I don't know if you've ever seen an adult RCS/BB shrimp, but they are tiny about half the size of an adult ghost shrimp.

$50 bucks for an itty bitty shrimp?????? Sorry, just had to react, my jaw hit the floor on that one. Whew!!

Ok, I won't recomend them anymore.

Yes $50 for an itty bitty shrimp. That is also not a high grade one. I have seen some CRS that people have paid over $1000 for a single one.

Sorry if that sounded a little harsh, but for the cost of these shrimp people may get a little upset if they get eaten. I do realize that someone out there probably has kept/is keeping these fish/shrimp together, but that will not be the norm.

The Dwarf Gourami and some rasboras or maybe tetras sound pretty good, already have shelldwellers in the 90g tang tank. thanks for the ideas guys!!
