Ok so I was going to petco to get some flake food because I was almost out and like normal I went to go see the poor saltwaterfish living in not too healthy conditions. I was looking through the tanks and i saw this pygmy angel fish and I had no clue what it was (which was wierd because for like a year angelfish were my passion). The guy there was realitivley knowledgealbe because he knew that it was in the centropyge genus but he said it was a Coral Beauty which i really dont think it is. So I bought the fish and took it home and still can't identify it. HELP!!!

Thanks for the reply. Thats what i kinda thought it was when i fisrt saw it, but i had never seen a hybrid like that i'd only seen like lemonpeel x halfblack and lemonpeel x ebli hybrids. But what was also wierd was that there was another at the store that looked exactly the same so i didint think that a petco would have two hybrid angelfish in at the same time. Thats wierd isnt it? maybe I'll go bakc and buy the other one too. LOL

Looks like a posible variation on Centropyge multicolor posibly in full adult phase. Can you get any more pics of him. Also, how much did you pay for him?

I only paid $20 (because the guy thought it was a coral beauty) for her and I really think I'm going to go back and get the other one because if its a hybrid or the juvenile of a multicolor angel $20 is a steal.

I think it has too much black to be a Multicolor, so I still think it is a Coral Beauty x Half Black, but that is probably just me. Also if you do buy the other one you will have to put it in a different tank as they will fight. Anyway, hope this helps.

Ok i got the other angelfish from the store and put him in the same tank as the other fish, BUT i put in a tank divider (it is a 55gl) after i acclimated him and put him in i noticed that they could see each other throught e divider and attempted to quarrel but gave up after a while. Then the next day i checked on him and he had a pretty large whitish spot on him and he was breathing heavily.(which was probably marine velvet) i did a freshwater dip because i cant use medications because it is a reef tank. then the next day he was dead even though the night before he seemed better. the parameters of thae tank were fine b/c i did a water change recently and it is an established tank. He might of had the disease when i bought him. did i do something wrong?

I was getting some sea salt yesterday at petco and i was lookin at the fish and they have a couple fish identical to the picture you have; labeled as CB. maybe its a petco thing. i didnt buy cuz they looked sick. they look like there body style is a little different than a normal CB.
