I have a bunch of jewel Cichlids, but I have 4 other types and I am wondering what type they are (and if they are African or Central American or what). Sorry for the lousy pics.

1) The yellowy type with multiple black stripes down their back.
2) The white one with yellow on its fins.
3) There's another yellowy one. (Closeup of its face shown.)
4) The darker larger one that has a tiger striped kind of pattern.

Also, apparently the jewel Cichlids are really common / not in demand. Is it the same with the "1) yellowy striped ones"? I think those 2 breed easily and so on. How about the other three types, are any of them (more) desirable?

Thank you!

Thanks for the info, and nice to meet you. I got them with my tank and don't want to keep aggressive fish. I think I found someone to adopt them all, we will see. They were only in the tiny tank for 2 mins for picture taking, but yeah they are cramped in their current home.

cool deal buddy yeah these fish are def aggressive fish that are in the photos cool you have found a home for them if not louisville is filled with a lot of pet shops that would take them in, later my friend..

actually that's an african cichlid. riverine to be exact. not all cichlids come from the rift lakes

Its not the size of the fish in the fight its the size of the fight in the fish.

Auratus are indeed nasty buggers - they will have no problem taking on larger SA/CA cichlids and require to be stocked with fish of equally horrible temperament, i.e. other sufficiently psycho mbuna.

With the temperment of my Flowerhorn, who bites ME when I do tank maintenance, I would have never thought the Auratus would have been tougher but I WAS WRONG!!! Beware the Auratus is my modo now:)

cool deal thanks for the cichlid 101, so to correct what i typed last night around 12am due to tiredness issues and human error is that, all of those cichlids in the photos look to be like african mbuna cichlids with the exception of the jewel cichlid (hemichromis bimaculatus) which is a west african cichlid that can be found in creeks, rivers, lakes and some lagoons in west africa, not a rift lake resident, i guess i needed some coffee, i have kept and bred many cichlids including west african species, i currently have a pair of wild caught hemichromis bimac's jewel cichlid with dozens of fry, i also have bred and kept mbuna and tanganyika's, currently i have several tanganyika's with fry, so i do understand what a rift lake cichlid is and not all cichlids from africa come from the rift lakes.. again correction on my part and i will try to be more complete with my information next time..
