I was at a friends house earlier and we were looking at her aquarium. It's a 55g. Beautiful tank. I spotted this one plant that was different looking and asked her the name.. she didn't know what it is, just bought it. She had a TON of it. Said it multiplied like crazy. Soo.. She gave me.. ALOT of it.. more than my 5g can hold.. haha. But I'd like to know if any of you have seen it, have it, heard of it, whatever.. anything you know about it.

not a very good picture (taken with my phone) but... the roots grow long ways on the backside of the plant. The leaves resemble anacharis a little bit, but larger and get reddish-purplish towards the end of the leaf. It grows in big clumps. ... Here's what she gave me. A SINK FULL!

What do YOU think it is??

anyone???

And also.... she's only got shrimp and snails in her tank, no fish.
Would this plant be ok for my zebras?

Can you possibly get a better and clearer photo in higher light? Colorwise, it looks like baby Java ferns?

Looks like some type of ludwigia but a better pic would help.

well I rinsed it really good with conditioned water, and stuck some in my tank.. to see how to the danios react to it. Here is a picture...

Sorry so fuzzy... digital camera does not work anymore!

Tell me what ya think.. I've never seen anything like this little thing before?
The Danios are doing good with it so far.

Ludwigia glandulosa grown in low-ish/medium light?

Under bright lighting, it would look like this. Same plant, I figure.. it just isn't as red as it would be grown under different conditions.

your probably right.

by the way.... that looks beautiful! co2??

The image I pasted in came from the web. It isn't my photo and I don't know how they were growing it. I just added that one because the plant structure and leaves seemed to be the correct species.

It's normally grown under high lighting and if you do that, then yes, you would certainly need to add CO2 and dose ferts appropriately to support vigorous plant growth. Otherwise, you'll be overrun with rampant algae growth.

Here's another shot that shows you the growth form under conditions like that.

Ludwigia glandulosa grows a bit wilder under less intensive lighting/etc (which I think looks lovely as well).

Look at the comments posted here. You'll be interested in the second one posted.

Wow! Thank you so much.
That is neat... I hope it takes off like crazy!
I just have a regular ol' light that came with the aquarium kit.
My anacharis is doing great.. and I don't even use any Ferts or ANYTHING.
I think Im going to go get some though.
The camboba, on the other hand, looks like crap.

Do you know anything about co2... I have NO idea.
When people say "you should set up a DIY co2" ... How do ya do it!?

Kashta: WOW, that look better then my Red Nasea!! And I thought my plants looked good... :(
