At Meijer they were called "Parrot Fish". As long as I have had them they are about 2 inches in diameter and are pretty oval like. They come in solid colors, I have pink, yellow, and blue. They have odd shaped mouths for the freshwater fish ive seen but maybe it sjust me. They tend to stay together and huddle up when I approach the tank. Any ideas? Ill get a pic if I can get a hold of a digital camera.

These are a hybrid fish--not sure exactly what the parents are, I'm not a cichlid expert. The colors are from dye. Search in the Cichlid forum for parrots, jelly beans, and jelly bean parrots, and I am sure you will find lots. Be advised--many people do not like them, both because they are hybrids and also because they are so often dyed.

thats horrible... who dyes a living creature to sell it on the market... if i wuold have known i wouldnt have gotten it.... ughpoor things

The color usually fades, leaving most of them a pale yellow/orange color. The dye is used for one reason--it sells. Dyed fish are often more prone to infections, so watch your water quality carefully. You will need to find them a bigger home--parrots can easily get 7-10 inches in size.

parrot fish

Not all of the parrots are dyed, I believe the orange, white and red are natural colors. They are a cross between a severum and some other fish
