Now he's getting hardware halts  Anyhow, he's still working on it but we may have to upgrade the motherboard in my server.
I never did like SUSE much..

I assume you've tried booting passing parameters to the kernel to disable all modern stuff if it's an old system.. you probably don't care about acpi or apm on a server.. ;)

Dunno. I assume that he has, since he's used this before. I've been out of the hardware and OS end of it for a long time.

Anyhow, it's down until we get SUSE running, which shouldn't be *too* long -- probably late tomorrow.

You assume correctly, and in reality I chose SUSE because our Systems Engineering team at Time Warner Cable standardized on SUSE for all of our Linux deployments - and I have enormous local support and resources to maintaining the server. This way when I need to upgrade, I can download the latest Jumpstart OS image and stay 100% current on security and binary pathces. My hope is to keep my wife's Bowheads Forum/Website stable, secure and available for the long term so that it can become a common-point around Rainbow fish discussions, etc.

After a night of trynig to get this old system to work, I came upstairs and declared, "It's Dead Jim!". - Time for a trip to the computer store for new components - oh we'll, I tried to save money at least..

SUSE is fine, in fact its one of the most supported Linux distributions available (being a Novell company), the support is outstanding in their SUSE Linux subsidiary.

Cheers,

Kris
