If I want two starfish can I just cut my current one in half?

It is just a disturbing thought to me, that someone would actually think about cutting a living being in half on purpose, it is one thing when it happens in nature. If the question had been posed, *If my starfish accidently loses an arm will it grow into two separate starfish?* I would have had an entirely different reaction, sorry if I overreacted, it just struck me as morally wrong that someone would think such a thing let alone admit to it in a forum.

Many of us propogate corals(living animals) by cutting, slicing, or breaking off frags. These are living animals but this is an accepted way of propogating these corals to keep them from having to be collected in the wild.

Understood, and we have had some questionable posts. If you feel something is out of line, I encourage you to report it to a moderator. If it is out of line, we will correct it as soon as we can. It's hard to make a moral judgement on something like this--just because you are not familiar with it, does not make it wrong. Personally, I think cycling with fish is a bad idea, likely to kill the fish, or leave them with damaged gills. Should I criticize those that choose to cycle with fish? Of course not.

Can this end? The issue was the practicality of doing something, and it seemed to be purely theoretical. Maybe a discussion of the ethics could go to GCC?
