..... what fish would you fill it with????

My wife, who had no interest in me getting my 300g tank, has decided that she wants to "oversee" what I am going to put in the 300g.

In other words, the final decision will be her's.:evil_lol:

I had planned to put a bunch of Severum's in the tank.
I love Severums and my wife does to. Well, untill they get big.
Then she looses interest because they are not cute anymore.

She wants a bunch of small fish that stay small.
I do not like small fish because I never have any luck with them.
Everytime I try to have a large school of fish or just a bunch of small fish, they get ICK. Everytime.
I have never had this problem with Cichlids. NEVER!!!!!

But anyway, the tank is still cycling so I have some time on my hands.

So humor me.....What would you stock??
And if you have any pictures to go along with your answer, post them. My wife does not know the difference between a Platty,Barb,Neon or Guppy so the pics would help.

I vote rainbow cichlids. (Herotilapia multispinosa) they stay small and are peaceful community fish that are nicely colored. You could also keep a bunch of other community fish with these too. There are some pretty hardy smaller fish out there, like white cloud mountain minnow and certain rasboras and such.

You could also go with africans if you want color and small size. Wont be able to keep much in the way of smaller schooling fish with these.

Another option would be apistos. There is a ton of different types out there and they stay rather small. I had a triple red pair. Here is the male.

They are compatible with small fish too.

I love triple reds...they are my favorite apisto!

I would have to go with a tank full of rainbows. I can only imagine what a school of them would look like in a 300g.

I have a 300, and it's a local biotope. I have logperch, margined madtoms, stonerollers, river chub, several kinds of shiners, creek chubsucker, central mudminnows, redspotted sunfish, and warmouth.

If I were to set up a tropical one...which way I went would depend on how much I wanted to invest in plants.

The Amazon biotope that jm1212 mentioned would make a great heavily planted tank, as would a Southeast Asia biotope with lots of danios, barbs, rasboras, loaches, and gouramis, or a New Guinea/northern Australia setup with rainbows, blue-eyes, and gudgeons.

For an unplanted or lightly planted tank, I think I would go for a combination of some big bichirs, such as Polypterus ornatipinnis, and a large tough schooler, perhaps tinfoil barbs or redhook silver dollars.
