If you had a big tank............

Now, I dont want to be seen as advocating the keeping of a species of fish banned from the US but... doesn't SOMEBODY import Asian arrowanas? Of all the other illegal animals I have seen/heard of people possessing, I can't see how those asian arrowanas can't be had in thsi country.

of course you can get them easily, goto any china town or canada and bring a few k. But it's just not worth it, one of the joy in fishkeeping is able to show it off. What's the point of keeping such a beautiful fish and live in fear someone will see it and take it away then slap a huge fine on you.

And they WILL take it away, there are plenty of cases where someone saw the fish and know it's illegal then reported to the authorities. I remember there was a big incident a while back where a fish store kept an illegal fish (they had it for years) and try to say it's for research purpose or soemthing, but eventually lost and the fish was taken away and killed.

I would do schools of fish. You see more activity and more personalities than having a couple of fish swimming left and right all the time.

If I had a big tank I'd keep Black crappie very nice looking fish my father keeps four in his custom 350gal. I'd also lean towards keeping some native brook trout, a few years ago I kept two in my 100g and they were very nice I lost them most unfortunetly due to a power loss that lasted a few hours when I wasnt at home during the summer and although my wife put the battery powered air pump on it just didnt work and they ended up dying.
