if your wondering where everyone went...

It's funny.. After I was told about the new place, I not only joined up there, but I started talking about fish stuff again here. Funny how that worked out..

Pfft...there are 45,000+ members on this site. So I think a migration of a few hundred won't be noticed. A bunch of people split off and make their own sites, I don't feel like trying to keep track of those forums when I can still get the information I want here. And I don't think that is going to change anytime soon.

heads up to those who started the site.. Great and knoledgable people may have left... and it's sad to see them go, but AC isn't a bad place. yeah, it has its occasional shutdowns, but I've been a member for over 6 years, and in the end, it's a place where great info is shared between a nice group. There are still people on here to share great info with.

For the most part, i have no complaints on AC, and hearing it get bashed over and over again eventually gets a bit annoying.

What you guys did is great with the new site and all, but i'll be stickin around here.

Of those 45,000, how many are active or have more than 10 posts? And of those active members, how many actually have a clue? The people listed as defectors are some of the heaviest hitters this place had. Losing them would be like all the software engineers walking out of Microsoft and leaving Bill Gates to do all the work. The name alone will only stay afloat so long before the lack of substance brings it under. AC isn't dead, but it certainly isn't what it once was. Fix it Michael.

I bet you'll be surprised at the people that will come out of the woodwork. People still ask questions and still get the answers they need. Only now the answers are coming from other people. So, in effect the engineers that left Bill gates are being replaced.

If you surf the net at look at other fish sites...you will see familiar names in a lot of different sites. True, some have "home" site that they are mainly on, but you can be active in a variety of sites and benefit from them all.

I've seen comments that people are "cheating" on AC by being on the other sites.
It's not a marriage for pete's sake! Think of it more as a circle of friends. You can have more than one group of friends.

People will gravitate to the sites that best meet their needs. I have sites I belong to that I don't go to frequently. It's not that I don't value them, just that I don't need what they have as often.

Over the past 1 1/2 year I've been a member here, site members here have voicied their frustration over how things have been run here. We've all shared in that frustration. For some..the irritation is tolerable, for some it's not. There are many who left this site long before other sites started because of that irritation.

I don't see a need to bash AC..there are still a lot of great things about it and Just be aware that if this place is unavailable, there are options :D During the "great drought" last summer when AC was down for so long, I hunted all over the net for familiar faces and somewhere to go hang out. Now there are options.
For those searching for something more than what AC is offering....there's options out there.

Alot of the well knowns have also gone to yet another site. Yes, they still hang around here, but now they spend more time there. Roan Art created a site called AquaFacts and it is a wonderful site. If anyone is interested you can join Roan, Dangerdoll, dougall, mduros, and many others here

i hope that they are! AC is a great site, michael just needs to fix it, and tell us where are money is going (for thoses that donated) i agree with you Msouth in that the engeneers are being replaced, i just hope that some truly knowledgible people appear from the woodwork to help it come back... i dont want to see AC die, im just tired of monthly outages, this site has that fixed and more in my openion, but if you still enjoy AC, more power to you!!!

i know that i keep coming here for archives and such :cool2:

Well look at it like this...with several new sites to choose from, the bandwidth useage here at AC ought to be so much less...:D
Everyone benefits.
