I'm An Idiot...

Which is exactly WHY I said "I'm an idiot"... now, can we please stop the bickering about what was CLEARLY stated in the first post, and get back to helpful advice? Wow, this is... you know what? Not worth it. Forget it, I'll look for help elsewhere. Just another example of power going to your head.

Thanks to all the people who had helpful comments, I really appreciate it.

BTW, there ARE ways to be helpful without being snotty, and I don't think Blue calling me a liar is helpful in any way. And what's this 'getting to the bottom of a thread?" Is that what this is all about?

Huh. I thought it was to get advice about fish. Well, I learned something.

As I see it, you are the only one bickering, as well as being snotty. If you are keeping these fish, instead of others dropping a basic comment here and there about them, they could very well give you a lot more in depth info on keeping them. Your choice.

So, what do you want, everyone to tell you that you are an idiot, or advice on keeping them? You are getting responses on both. If you would like a single topic kept to, then I personally suggest giving a single topic to be discussed.

Blue.

She didn't call you a liar, she basically asked you a simple question: "Do you plan to keep them, or return them? Please specify." You took it the wrong way, and you alone got it out of hand. You should consider the way someone is thinking when they are typing. If it at first comes across to you as rude in any way, re-read it from a different view. That's how I look at things when I think someone has been a bit too cheeky.

Now, back on topic...

I would disregard anything that woman tries to tell you from now on. If you have made even one bad purchase from being misinformed, you should take it seriously and not trust that person at all. There's a place 3 hours from here where I get all of my good fish, and once I asked how big one of the "rice paddy eel"'s got. He said they'd stay that size. Not trusting him, I researched and came up with it could get over 40" and was brackish, and was pretty picky too. Not like the 2" baby he said would be easy as pie to look after. I did my research and held my suspicion, and in turn I avoided a nasty slip. Cheers,

I didnt see it as Blue calling you a liar either... I too was alittle confused in the thread when you were saying you were going to take them back...then asked about suggestions on how to keep them. I think this is what Blue was really trying to get at was are you keeping them or are you taking them back so people wouldnt waste time commenting on ways for you to keep them only for them to be returned and vice versus.

If you take them back then thread is done and problem is solved....If you decide to keep them then people here with knowledge of this type fish will be more than willing to help all they can I am sure....

Personally, I don't understand people who take on the responsibility of bringing livestock into their home, without thoroughly researching the species in question, and knowing exactly what they're getting into. These are living things, folks. It's not (or shouldn't be) like picking up a new pair of shoes.

I couldn't agree more. :irked:

I usually come to this site for information. Im sure that is why most people come here. but having a kiddy fight helps no one. its dosent help people become more informed and in some cases may cause people to not ask a question for fear of the kind of reaction this post has gotten. cant we call a truce and start talking about fish insted of pointing out peoples mistakes and/or lack of knowledge? lets all play nice k?

I understand your frustration. I too am an impulsive buyer. I bough my Amazon cichlid under the pretence that it was a black belt and would get as big as my Oscars and green terror. I’m happy with the little guy. Since then I have started to do research before I buy any fish. Its a good thing to because I almost ended up with two Parachromis dovii (wolf cichlids) that were labeled spotted dovii and the max size would be 8 to 10 inches. I took pics with my phone, got the latin name and jumped online when I got home. I think it should be a crime to sell you a fish under false pretences ie Butterfly Goby when its a Wasp fish.

what is an amazon cichlid?

I've been a member of this site for years now. Honestly, its not worth it to be angry at anyone for the fact that the turnover rate of mods and basic members is through the roof. Basically, people won't be around long enough for you to even bother holding a grudge. This place has been in somewhat of a malaise for some time after a large number of mods and big time posters left. It is just now starting to turn around, so lets all just be civil.
