I'm angry - Lumpy's story

SV...you've got yourself a very pretty little fish there. He actually didn't look too bad off in those pics you took of him in the "old water". It's amazing how long they can put up with water in those conditions....makes me wonder how long the ones that are turning fuzzy have been in those conditions...as bad as you'rs was.....I've seen much worse... :mad2:

Nice little setup you have him in now..much better. Something a bit bigger though since you should put a heater in there. Sometimes just haveing a light right over the bowl can heat it up enough, but you'd have to keep it on all the time so the temps would stay stable. Nice job !

He'll definately be fine in the vase for a while, but a tank would be great. I bought a 2.5 gallon setup that came with a filter for 20 dollars, then I bought a heater from www.drsfostersmith.com for I think 10 dollars. That being said, after a few months my betta was upgraded to a 10 gallon and is very happy, so if you can go bigger I recommend it :D Congrats on the rescue

I think I will get a 5 gallon tank and heater. He's looking very good today. He's not white but a very very light blue actually. Never noticed that when he was on the edge of death at the store :(

I have one betta in a 6 gallon eclipse in my son's room, and another one in a 1.5 gallon brandy glass on top of my cable box in the living room. I've had a betta in that brandy glass for ages (this one is Quint II... I've had him for like 5 months now, I saved him from PetSmart after Quint I died at the ripe old age of 26 months!!) I once had a betta who lived for just shy of 4 years... The living room gets the sun all day, and the cable box itself gives off heat.

Once you warm Lumpy up a bit you will notice him flourish even more!! You'll really see a personality come out then!!!

*putting on flame suit* I think that's a nice little bowl for him. As long as you keep it clean and warm, he could definately live happily in there. Would he love more room? Sure! But as long as water is clean and warm and there is ample room for him to swim around bit, he'll be a happy camper. I had a betta here at work and kept a desk lamp on over his tank 24 hrs, and the water was a stable 79-81. He was in a 2ish gallon fancy glass salad bowl. He lived for almost 3 years.

On a very close tangent.

I was hanging out at a boardwalk this weekend, when I noticed a woman carrying two bettas in little cups and one of those tiny 1 gallon plastic "tanks". Then I noticed someone else w/ a betta in a little cup, and then another.

You probably guessed it by now; there were games handing out bettas as prizes, stacked all over the booth. No more regard to the fish than to a stuffed animal. :mad2:
I'd guess some of those betta's are also making into the ocean as well..... :mad2:

You have inspired me to go save some animals!!!

*Goes to PetLand, buys 50 ghost shrimp, dumps shrimp in 20 gallon, watches puffers eat shrimp*

Aaah, I feel so great knowing I saved some lives from a horrible and slow death!
