I was in the hobby for several years and ranged from 20g up to a 37g, but could never get a setup that I was really happy with. After a year off, I am back with a different approach.

I got a 12g Nano Cube, about 15 lbs of LR, live sand, Green Star Polyps, several different mushrooms, and lots of other hitchhikers all for under $100. My friends really hooked me up by donating all sorts of goodies from their 70g reefs. I'm so pumped!

I set this tank up last weekend and am really happy with how it's starting out. I need a little more LR and I have some cleaners coming this week. Here are some pictures, but it looks like I'm going need a better camera if I want to do this tank any justice. Thanks for looking, more to come as this tank progresses!

Lookin good. I would assume it cycled then right?

This is the tank today, about 3 weeks old now. The Green Hairy Mushroom split into 2, and a bunch of tiny GSP have sprouted on the same rock. The larger GSP rocks came from my friend's reef tank. There are 2 smaller blue/ purple mushrooms, but my camera kinda sucks and they are too small.

I'm not going to add anything else for at least 3-4 weeks. I've been doing a lot of research into suitable fish, and have a few ideas. I think I would like to eventually have 2 small fish in this tank. Here are a few thoughts:

-Rainford's or Hectors Goby (almost defintely one of these 2)

and then one more fish from this list:

-Tailspot Blenny
-Bimaculatus Blenny
-Banded Longfin Basslet
-Chalk Basslet
-Suggestions??

Thanks!

Tank looks very nice....and as for the additions. I really like my tailspot blenny-persoanlity and lots of color.

Thanks for looking! I think a Tail Spot Blenny is pretty much for sure. They are pretty fish and seem to be a suitable size for a 12g, and blennies usually have lots of personality. I'll probably pair the blenny with either a Rainford's, Hector's, or Greenbanded Goby. I think these fish should get along and do well in a nano reef. I guess I should add the goby first?

Aside from the fish and a few shrimp, my tank is pretty much stocked. I'll start working on some different frags as the tank gets more established.

FA: just a thought, but most of the rainfords that I have worked with are really passive and don't exhibit the territorial behavior of the tailspot-or any blenny. Might want to add them first (rainfords) so that they get used to the tank and then add the TS. Won't be a problem either way, might just ease the transition for the tankmates. Really like your nano tank!
