well i just got a new pc up and running, but im having problems with my built in network card. the motherboard has an nforce4 chipset, and a built in nforce network card.

Ive got all the drivers installed, and the nforce network access manager, but it wont connect properly for some reason.

I dont have a router or anything, and its only connected to my cable modem, but if i use it, then the modem wont connect to the internet and is unable to aquire a network address, and always has the wrong IP address.

I had it working this morning but it stopped, and whenever i power cycle my modem, it will connect briefly, and then it disconnects.

Does anyone know how to setup an nforce4 chipset/NIC so i can use it to connect to the internet?

Try looking in Network Connections ... (control panel...network connections) Right click on your connection and click properties... In the list click on Internet Protocol to highlight it.....then click properties to the right and see if "Obtain an IP address automatically" is checked... If not check it and see if it helps

funny thing. I've got an Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe mobo, with an Nvidia Nforce onboard connection as well, but it came with two, one for the Nforce, one by the name of Marvell Yukon.

the Marvell is the only one i've ever gotten to work.

yeah.. sorry i don't have a solution for you.. i tried everything in the book, including my own skills as well as the Nvidia troubleshooting.. i eventually concluded that the Nvidia chipset sucks. lol

Best bet might be to buy a new pci nic card (they are pretty cheap) and disable the onboard nic and install the new nic and drivers.
