Im building a stand for a 29 gal and The dont think the top with be 100% flat. It might be a bit "wavy" or something so Id like to know if theres anything i can put under the tank to help.

I think i read cardboard or something a a while ago, but wouldnt that be an eye sore sitting under it?

thoughts? opinions? questions?

thanks

What material are you going to use for the stand? If the top is made of wood, why would it be wavy? Or, just how wavy are we talking about?
It has to be structurally sound for the weight of the tank and water, so dont skimp on materials...

Every tank stand I've built for myself or a friend I have put a sheet of styrofoam on top, under the tank. You can get them at shipping stores, or for bigger sheets they have them at hardware stores. A lot of things will work, a towel folded in half, sand, basically anything that will even itselft out over time once the weight of the tank compresses it.

is it built now.
you could always add a flat piece of plywood or mdf then have a thin layer of styrofoam to totally level it out.

Also, you can also use plexiglass to provide a smooth surface, if you are worried about pressure points on your tanks. You can get plexi at Home Depot or Lowe's.

How think of styrafoam we talking?

How does that look under the tank? I dont want it to be ugly it at all possible.

thanks

It'll squish, so get it pretty thick. See whats available.
You can paint the edges of the styrofoam so it matches your stand, also.

the styrofoam will only take out small imperfections you really need a flat base to work from so i would use a layer of wood at least 6mm thick.

I am assuming that the top of the stand is a bit twisted. The same happened to me. Too much of a twist to be removed with styrofoam.
See this thread for my fix, it worked well... http://www.cichlid-forum.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=113790&highlight=

I also placed a sheet of 1/2" styrofoam (the white stuff, not the pink or blue, it compresses more...) between the stand top and tank bottom. If you have black trim all you need is a piece of electrical tape and the styrofoam dissappears.
