This time from my aquaclear filter, but I was just trying to adjust the lid on it and I touched the top of the plastic part that pulls up water and I got a large shock from it. My hands were not wet and neither was the filter at all. It seems to be working fine, but I unplugged it and I'm afraid to touch it as the shock was large enough were it was kind of scary so I don't have any idea why my filter is shocking me now. Before I was getting small shocks from the water but never from the filter itself. :headshake2: Anyone have this issue with aquaclear?

What were you wearing on your feet? Do you have a submersible heater? Any powerheads? How are they plugged in? A powerstrip?

I wasn't wearing anything on my feet and the heater is submersible and I have a rio and koralia powerhead and yes they are plugged into a powerstrip. But if it was one of those then wouldn't I only get shocked in the water or would it trasfer somehow to the filter?

I just can't figure out why you would get shocked by plastic. If you turn off the powerstrip do you get shocked? You have saltwater, right? I think that saltwater conducts electricity better than fresh water. You want to find the source of the electrical shock and replace that piece of equipment. One by one unplug each or your filters, heater, lights, powerheads and whatever else you have on your tank. Each time you have one thing unplugged put your hand in the tank and see if it is the culprit. It is not at all normal for something to be shocking you when you put your hand in your tank and it could be an indication of a bigger problem to come. This is not something you want to let go. Wear rubber soled shoes when you do though. I wonder if using a circuit tester would help. Then you wouldn't zap yourself.

I thought it was odd that i was getting shocked by it too, or that it was even possible to get shocked by a filter. When I stick my hand in the tank there is nothing, no shocks at all. But I took off the filter and looked at the motor to see if there was maybe some salt creep that had gotten into it. So I cleaned everything and let it dry before plugging it back in and so far it hasn't shocked me again. Thanks for the link though, I think I will definitely invest in a circuit tester rather than using myself to test the water.

 you're welcome. Good luck!

Sounds like static electricity to me... Especially if it only happened once..
