It's been a VERY long day. Setting up my 29 gall has been horriable and trying and I've just got it working now.. Well I went to go to my 10 gall to take out the sponge so I it could help cycle the 29 gall. When I notice these white things in my filter and my sponge and I have NOO clue what they are. They don't seem to be alive but I don't want to put anything in my new tank that might harm it..

and this part I swear I'm gonna cry tonight! Now My filter won't turn for my 10 gall. The plug isn't wet and the outlet works because my heater is plugged into the extension cord.. and I cleaned it out thinking something might be clogged and I put all the filters back into to it, theres no power to it. It's an Aqua Clear and I've had it for a year now.
:help:

I'm soo stressed right now, I am beyond the stress level point and now I'm not sure if I should wake up my parents to help me with the filter and all the scary things are running through my head like what if my fish die because I can't get the filter working etc. :wall:

Today just plane old sucks!

Are you sure the impeller is seated correctly? As for the white things, maybe planaria?

the impeller I would assume it is, you can't reach the impeller. I do know there is power going to it, the modem attached to it is hot, so I unplugged before it burns itself out!

Doesn't look Planaria, these white things they're almost roundish . So much for having a bit of peace before bedtime.

And I can't use the filter from the other tank because it's a UGF

i hate when filters break if u cant get to the impeller i would assume something inside there is whats the problem my old hob was like that and it did the same thing but i just ended up buying a new one
if u have an airpump/stone run it untill u can go to buy a cheap sponge filter or if u have the money a new filter.
good luck

I have nothing to spare for the tank. The only option would be is throwing the fishes into the new tank but it's not even cycled. I just set it up a few hours ago.

Stupid filter is only a year old! I tried my best when I cleaned out the filter and I shook it a bit with water in it too see if there was something in there just incase and I could get it loose but nothing came out!

what about the white stuff in my filter? I've never seen it before, and Now I'm also worried about the white stuff, it's all in my filter and the media.

Is there anything visably wrong with the fish in the tank with the white stuff on the filter media? If there is nothing wrong with the fish it is likely that there is nothing harmful about the white stuff

No I've been watching my fish carefully as of lately my red female swordtail has been acting weird but in the last day or so she's more back to her oldself. the white things kinda gross me out actually! lol

Just wanted to say thanks to everybody! I've calmed down alot, today has just been a really stressful day and the filter thing just put me over the edge!

If it's an Aquaclear, you should be able to reach the impeller by twisting off the motor at the bottom of the filter. Unless the design has changed, of course.
