I'm having a freakout, filter not working

plug in the filter take the intake tube out and use somewthing to spin the impellor, it should start up then just put the intake tube back on, i use to have to do it every time i unplugged my ac 20

If it's an Aquaclear, you should be able to reach the impeller by twisting off the motor at the bottom of the filter. Unless the design has changed, of course.

:iagree: I have all Aqua Clear filters and when I do filter changes and don't clean the propeller well they do exactly what you are describing - just get hot. It' not broken, just twist off the motor part, remove the white propeller and clean out that area real well. It should work fine after that. Also, unless I'm mistaken all Aqua Clear have a 2 Year Warranty. So if it is indeed broken you should be able to get it replaced.

***forgot to add*** perhapses you can post an image of the 'white stuff'? Doubtful it's anything to be concerned about but a pic would help to determine.

Sometimes the white stuff is just mineral buildup or something which is relatively harmless--every now and then I have it on a filter. Just wash it off.
I came home one evening to a 55g and both filters had failed to restart--all the fish were at the very top, trying to get air, and very pale--even the BGK. Talk about a panic!! Glad you're doing better.

i had the same problem with my filter a while back, i took it to my local reptile/aquarium house (swallow aquatics), I gave it to my mate there and he sorted it out for me, I dont know if it was the same make or not the i THINK it was a fluval 4, but im not sure. I wish you all the best on solving this dilemna.
