Day 16 of cycling... I wish I knew more about fishless cycling before I did this! :) My ammonia levels are down to zero, but still waiting for the Nitrites to go away before I can add some new fish. My poor little tetras look so lonely in that big tank! I cannot wait to be able to add more!!!

They seem really happy and everything has been running super-smooth, but I'm just not patient enough. Any suggestions for the next round of fish?

What about just one other kind of tetra, and having about 12 of each, then a group of 6 or so corys? They should all school pretty well that way, would look really neat :D . And good job on the cycling, you'll have a nice established tank with happy fish :thm:

We were thinking of more tetras and some cory cats. We just found this awesome fish place... it's a little bit of a drive, but they have really healthy fish and TONS of species. I'm glad that I have a new place instead of Petco... This place has 5,700 square foot showroom full of really cool fish. I just wandered around for hours!

I started fishy cycling with my Betta because he was in very poor conditions already. I too am very anxious so I ended up just springing for Bio-Spira. My tank was cycled fully in a week. I bought enough for a 30 gall tank and it was less then $10. To me the price was worth not waiting.

Your nitrites should read off the chart and then in a couple of days be down to acceptable levels, in another few days they usually read 0. This has been my experience. Sooo, your almost there. Its wise to go with a good amount of one tetra, and a centerpiece fish for interest. Having to groups of different tetra is less visually appealing to me...but that's me. I think tetras and small schooling fish look prettier, like bunches of small flowers, and a couple roses (like gourami) for interest lol :)

I like the way you think swimfins. That's the setup I want to have, but instead of tetras, I want platies for the upper region. And all the mid region would be left to the dwarf gourami. Then on the bottom would be my bumble bee shrimp.

BTW, does anyone know a good place to find bio-spira?
