Hello all. Decided to jump into the world of fish keeping a few weeks back and now I'm totally confused about filters
. I bought a 55gal w/ a Penguin 330 HOB. This has the 2 filter cartridges (activated carbon), 2 bio-wheels and 2 filter media baskets. I've been doing some reading and & if I've read things correctly activated carbon seems to be the least desirable filter media. If this is the case what should I be using in my filter (in the baskets and cartridge) and what exactlly is the purpose of activated carbon?
I've read about sponges and filter floss and other media but in all honesty I don't have a clue to what these are. Are they something I could/should use w/ my Penguin? How? Is there something else I should be using?
Please advise....my brain needs a rest.
Thanks everyone.
