hey all, great forum you've got here! i've been lurking off an on for a while. i've come across a tank pretty local to me that i'm going to pick up probably this weekend. clicky clicky for pics

tell me what you all think! does this look like a good setup? any tips or things i may need aside from the obvious stuff? also, what is the best way to transport this setup?

thanks guys and gals!
Paul

How much are they asking for it? Do they have a list of what it includes? It may or may not be a decent deal. I'd definitely add some more rock, find out why the polyps aren't open and probably want to replace sand for starters. To transport it, how far would you need to travel?

price is $125. it's in my county, so less than 20-30 minutes drive. the originial add: "20 Gallon Salt Water Aquarium including stand and extras. One fish, Six-lined Wrasp who is VERY hardy. 23 pounds of live rock. A dozen or so of hermit crabs and snails. One mini star fish. Super skimmer, power head, and Coralife light (Have boxes for most stuff!). Two timers for the light. Remainder of fish food. 1/2 bag of salt. Various cleaning items"

whatcha think?

I think that would be very overpriced here in the states for that particular setup. And the current owner not knowing he has a wrasse and not a wrasp as he typed a few types added to the looks of the tank points to neglect and someone that didn't have much experience.

really? i noticed the typo myself and kinda wrote it off to being a bad speller... but if the consensus is stay away, esp. for $125, i'll defer to experience. i've been interested in getting into a SW tank for some time, just was a bit staggered at the costs of starting one from scratch. thought this might be a good way to get established and gain some experience.

Used is a great way to get into the hobby. But just like with a used car there are good deals and bad deals. Try contacting your local reef club and see if anyone has stuff you could use for a nano tank. Even if one person doesn't collectively they are likely to have what you'd need along with advice on local vendors and more.
