I'm pretty angry!

I had a similar experience yesterday. Ive been cruising around and checking prices at all of the lfs's in my area, just to see who carries what and to decide who I will give the majority of my business. The one store I stopped in was absolutely horrible. The guy had what I think was either a large oscar or or a jd in a 10 gallon tank. The poor thing barely had enough room to turn around! Many tanks contained fish that looked ill and gasping for air, and most of his tanks were covered in a heavy coat of algea.

How this store has been in business as long as it has is beyond me. That guy will never get one cent from me.

I get angry every time I've gone to Petco. This last time, their goldfish tanks were so overstocked that the fish were pretty much just stacked up in the tank. They barely had room to shimmy just to keep water flowing over their gills. And when I say 'barely', I mean that the fish on the bottom could not have turned around... well, probably could not move at all. They were 2-3" fish... not just little feeders... and even so, it is just plain cruel.

I am new here but can't help but find that frustrating I just had o go buy a new 29 gal because my pleco got so big for my tiny ten ...not that im complaining just that it was a great exscuse to get a bigger tank..lol..but i can't see how any one would let such a beautiful fish like that suffer is beyond me..

Judgemax, the pleco isn't going to fit in the 29 either.

At a store like petsmart, the fish spend very little time in their tanks... overcrowding there is not quite the same as at our houses.

She wouldnt sell the large pleco for 30$? Thats crazy. Ones that big sell for no more than 10-15 dollars at the LFS I work at.

Maybe it's just me, but I tend to expect seeing things like this when I go into pet stores. If I were to not visit any pet stores where I see things like this, then I wouldn't have any pet stores in my area that I could visit. :( I know it doesn't make it right, but...well...I guess I don't know what i'm saying. I guess I just choose not to be angered by what they do in pet stores.

I know! Maybe she was trying to squeeze me for more $$? I have a real soft spot for animals in that situation, I almost bought 10 angel fish today because nobody wanted tham at the fish auction.

for right now he is comfortable in the 29 and i will soon be purchasing a 55 gal ...i really am getting interested in alot of the chillids so am hoping to move him up hes only about 4 and half inches now and hes ok ...he grows extrememly slow and still is vibrant in color and personality so he will be ok till i get him his mansion...ill keep getting bigger for him until i get to 150 then he can go to our pond...he is about a year old now and still grows slowley at his own pace was only bout an inch when got him ...

i just wanted to chip in my 2 cents that that pleco story was really sad. my favorite LFS that i have ever been to has a 300 gallon tank that they keep just for all the fish like that that people bring in that are too big for a normal tank. i wish all pet stores were that good. and ya i can't believe they wouldn't sell it to you for 30 bucks... they got it for free from the other guy and you would think if they didn't have room for it they would love for someone to take it off their hands.
