I went to this "great" fish store today. They told me that I could get two bumble bee gobies. Meanwhile I even asked if they were brackish. They said, no we dont ever put salt in our freshwater tanks. So I got them. While they were acclimating I did a search on them and lo and behold brackish fish. I never buy like that, except this place is kind of far away. I would add salt to the tank except I dont belive the corys there now will be very happy. Any ideas? Would the gobies live in freshwater? Im so upset. I never have this happen. Well I guess I cant say never anymore. UGH!

I don't know first hand but maybe it can be acclimitized to a fresh water tank? Some fish like brackish water but can survive in a fresh water set up, like Mollies for example. Again I don't know if that is the case with your gobies. I'll leave it in the hands of the more experience aquariests (Is that a word? Oh, well, it works!) here.

Brachygobius xanthozona supposedly can tolerate freshwater but is supposed to be a brackish water fish.
Brachygobius nunus will not tolerate freshwater very well. aka goldbanded goby
again both are brackish and do best in the brackish tank.

generally those fish that live in estuaries can accomadate temporary changes since this is a norm for estuaries. but will most likley strive to get in the 'best possible water conditions

Thats exactly my point. I would be fine if I knew they would be ok. I just want them to healthy. I dont want them to have to adapt, unless they can do so with no ill effect.

Oh, I agree with your statements. I'd definately keep a brackish water fish in brackish water as opposed to fresh water. I just wanted inform that they could "survive" by certainly not thrive in a freshwater tank. I <3 Fish!

I understand what you are saying. I have a 20 gallon that Ive been waiting to set up. I think Im going to do a brackish set up. Then Ill move them over. I really thought this store was great. I figure the gobies are better off with me since Im going to try to get them into a brackish setup, whereas the store "doesnt ever add salt to our freshwater tanks". Thanks for all the fast replies.
