Hello All Pman Here... I've had this green severum for about 10 or so months, ( not exactly sure how long, give 1 or two months, but surly don't take any ) but when I got him he was about 3 inches long and about 2 inches wide, now he is about 4-5 inches long and about 3 inches wide, I dont see any reason why he isnt growing, he is in a understocked (2 pictus cats, him, creek bluegill) 25 gallon tank, he is very active, eats very well and seems overall happy... anyone know whats goin on?

Ummm hate to tell you, but that's not an understocked tank. How large is the bluegill ? It's aslo possible that your severum was stunted before you even got it... LFS like to pack them in with 30-40 others in holding tanks and feed very little. My small severum hasn't grown nearly as much as my jack dempsey... but friends say they can see that the severum is growing (in a 55gal with a jd and gt).

My RedHead Severum has grown an inch...got him 1 and a half month ago from Jeff. His mate hasn't grown at all. The reason?

She was being chased by her mate whenever she showed her appearance. She doesn't get a chance to eat as much as her mate. *sigh* need to beef her up in another tank soon.

I have another Green Severum that grew 3" within 3 months...And she spawned with my male Green Severum that only grew 2" within half year (one of the picky eaters).

You might wanna know how your Severum eats. Couple of my Severums will only take 2 cichlid sticks a day with some home made fish food, flakes, and pellets. My other Severums are pigs. They will eat and eat until there are nothing left in the tank. Those are pigs...grow very fast. Those couple that are being so picky...grow slower.

How often do you feed your fish?

When I had my gold severum it grew from 1.5 - 2" to 7-8" in about 18 months. It was in a 55 gallon tank with another severum, silver dollars, and a pleco.

A single severum requires at least a 40 gallon tank.

I got 9 assorted juvies in a 30 long about 5 mos ago between 2-4"s. The tank was beyond putrid. Put them in larger tanks. One died, and the others never seemed to grow forever. The past month they are putting on some serious size. Most are blind from their first home, so I'm slowly giving them to good homes.

I feed twice daily, He is a HOG eats all the food, but has barely grow'n a inch, the blue gill is tiny, And I think the bluegill is stuned badly, my brother's girlfriend's 5 year old son found the bluegill at the creek, it was dead... My mom put it in a sandwich bag and was going to help Austin burry it, she put somewater into the bag and waited about 5 minutes, she went to pick up the bag and the fish was twitching, so she decided she whould try to make it come back to life  so she live'ind him back up, I quarentined him, he lived, then added him to the 25g. so the bluegill is very tiny, maybe 2 inches long and about 7/8 inch wide.. very small critter.

Thanks for all the feedback, I think he was stunned from the lfs.

I once had 2 green severums in a 75 and one grew by leaps and bounds. The other however was only half the size. The bigger fish was always the dominant severum. I'm not sure if this had anything to do with smaller fishes growth or not.
