Well...we just got back from our local smiley face store and I did a bad which I always pride myself in not doing. Dang impluse..but I like to think this is more of a real rescue than impluse.

Let's back up a bit. We got there and as much as I told myself not to look at their tanks because I am very familiar with their conditions, I looked any way. To my surprise, I found a pretty nice assortment of plecs. Never seen this selection before at a chain.

Naturally, however, my focus was the tanks. As expected, very horrible conditions. Many, many death's and dying.

Needless to say, I found two guys that looked ok and just told myself that i couldn't bare having them meet that fate. So I got em. No biggie as I always keep a QT tank in the ready.

Get home and go to set it up...it friggin leaks near the bottom! Double crap!

I may be able to rig something else up but in the mean time, I can float them in a big plastic bowl in another tank and start a very slow acclimation. My only issue will be filtration in the bowl. I am going to put an air stone in there right now.

I'm going to try and swing to move a spare filter to the bowl but not sure if it will work.

If not, will just the air stone be ok til tomorrow when I can get a replacement tank?

So upset with that store but....my expections were definately met. Now I hope my efforts pay off and these guys will survive.

The plecs are nice little guys. One is black with white stripes...no..not a zebra ;o) Not sure how to describe the other. They are stressed right now so the colors aren't really showing but will get pics as soon as they settle in.

I would do an air stone and heater in a tub or 5 gal bucket. No filter for that period of time should be ok as it will start with fresh water and you can do a water change in the morning. As long as you are changing water, they should be fine until you can get a new spare tank tomorrow.

I think i found a deep enough bowl to work with my spare filter. I have come up with a plan "c" if that doesn't work.

dripping them now

Little guys made it just fine through the eve. Still showing big signs of stress but think they'll be ok. Have them in a tank now. Getting ready to throw some zuc in there.

I believe one is a Clown Plec. As soon as the smaller one gets his color back, I'll try and get a pic of him for ID. He is supposed to be black with thin white stripes.

They sound beautiful! I hope they recover, and looking forward tonpics when you can! :)

So here's one of the little guys. The other one is real good at hiding.
