Impulse buy!!!!

After a bad morning at the hospital, my dad and I stopped off at my LFS and I finally broke my rule and brought something on impulse!!! I did manage to look at a few books in the shop first so at least I knew I had to be wary with this one.

I brought a reef lobster!! (Enoplometopus debelius)

Here's a picture of him acclimatising.

I have done further research and from what I've seen they're reef compatible with caution. I don't have any small, slow moving fish, it's a large tank and he'll get plenty of food, so I'm giving it a go.

I've always thought those guys are cool. I hear they can be menaces when they get bigger, though.

But, at that point, I'm sure you can get rid of him IF you need to.

I bought a big one, and he got along great before turning into a menace. One by one, fish began disappearing. Eventually had to trade him in, which was a shame because he was one of my favorites in the tank.

I personaly feel that these are not that bad at all, the same as any meat eating inhabitant, if fed well, there will be no cause or reason for it to try to feed off the other tank inhabitants..They are very pretty aswell..

Great purchase and i hope it does well in the reef..

That's my theory and there is no way you can say my tank is underfed. Any other lobster and I wouldn't have done it but this seems to be the safest of them all.

Should it not go well then Grins' solution is at the top of the list next to chucking it in the fuge!!!

I have one in my reef, I always forget about him though. It hides in the rocks all day, and comes out very little at night. The only way I know he is in there and still alive, is that I have to remove his molted shell about every 3 or 4 months. I am suspecting that he is the one who ate all but one of my Green Chromis. No big deal really, just thought I'd let you know.:thumbsup:

What is interesting is that my school of Chromis have started fighting amongst themselves. Two have already been ousted and one is currently hiding amongst my Zoas and the other is sitting in the corner of the tank. I had the same problem when I kept a smaller group of Chromis, I thought it might not be as bad in a larger group - I wonder if that was the same with yours Matt?

The lights haven't come on yet this morning so i haven't done a head count yet!!!!
