in 75 gallon tank

hi i have a 55 gallon and im upgrading to a 75 gallon and was wondering what do i doo with the water? put in the new tank and add water? what should i do with the fish, a bucket? just let me know becasue im not very expeiranced yet about this stuff.

it would have to be a new/clean bucket scrubbed with a new/REALLY clean brush, dont use soap or anything use salt or vinegar; rinse WELL
 
Well, Nate, what I've done in the past with success is:
1) put the fish in a bucket or two with tank water
2) siphon out the remaining water--it doesn't hold the good nitrifying bacteria, although you could put a couple three inches into the new tank, it'll help with laying gravel back in
3) put gravel etc., from 55 into 75--good bacteria is living in these--IF you are adding more new substrate, put it in first
4) attach filters from old tank; fill tank; let it run a while--couple of hours; then measure amm/trite/trate levels
5) put fish in; watch for mini-cycle

I'm sure others will chime in with their methods; this is what has worked for me.
 
Well, leave the fish in the tank and set up the 75 gallon. Turn on the filter and heater (optional) and let it run for 10+ days. Then, after 10 days, have 4-5 buckets and put the fish in. Make sure you put the right fish together because some fish can get aggresive with eachother in small areas. So make sure you have a compatible number of CLEAN buckets filled with fresh, clean water at the right temperature. Now that the 75G is cycled, and the fish are in the buckets, remove everything from the 55G that you want in the 75G, and put the stuff in the 75G. Anything you bought from the pet store such as live plants, put them in right now. Shut the 55G down. make sure the temperature in the 75G is compatible and carefully introduce the fish to their new, larger tank!
 
well the new tank is used and has water in it. ill will take the water out becasue im not carring 500lbs. but does that make a diffrece?

How long has the water been in it?? I would suggest removing it, setting up the tank, and putting water in it. Let it get situated for 10+ days.
 
Just so u know 10 days is not gunna cycle a new 75 gallon tank i would go with rosita's method because that way u may only see a mini cycle if anything because you are using all the fliter media with the benefitial bacteria from the 55 which will have prolly more then enough bacteria as there will be less of a bioload in a larger tank with the same fish
 
i did a water change , 30 percent, 4 days ago. ill be picking it up probably this weekend.

you could add some old water to the new tank if you want, but i never did when i upgraded tanks. it would just be like the fish are coming home from the LFS- you never add the LFS water to your tank.

yes, put the fish in some buckets for the move over to the new tank.
