Well I did not want to post these until I was finished, however I had to post them earlier in a different section of the forum so I guess I show them here too.

This tank is no where near done. It will be a low tech fully planted discus tank. I am a college student so I can only add piece by piece. lol

The setup

72g AGA bowfront tank
300w Hydor Heater
110w cf lighting
Hagen fluval 405 (with purigen, carbon, filter floss, and ceramic bio rings)
(2) large driftwood pieces (from a river in florida)

Plants
Java Fern
Swords
Java Moss
Jungle Vals
Random Plant (can't find the name of it)

Fish
Blue Rams- absolutely beautiful
Mollies- these guys are going to my gf's tank sometime this month
Clown Loach- These guys are 4-5inches and will be in this tank until they reach 7-8in. Then I will put them in a 125g.

What's to come...

Plants
I just dropped the moss in their because I did not have time to attach it. I will be attaching it to the smaller sized driftwood. I will be adding two amazon sword mother plants at 22'' each that I bought from forum members at another site. They will replace all of the plants on the right side of the tank I have one already on the way from a member of plantedtank.net. I am also adding frogbit and a sibling of duckweed(can't remember the name) as soon as it arrives. This will provide cover for fry and shade for the discus I add in the next two weeks. I also hope to add more jungle vals. Everything in the tank will be relatively low tech because I cannot afford to lose an expensive discus to a co2 error that I caused.

Fish

I will be adding five discus of red turquoise, pigeon blood, and blue diamond strains. That may change depending on what my lfs has in stock. I will also add one schooling fish. It will either be rummys, cardinals, or rasboras. If I get cardinals, I will have to get young discus so they can grow up together. That will decrease the chance of the discus viewing them as food.

Maintenance

I am buying a fluval 405(got mines for $129 via pricematch at petsmart, can't beat that!) and also a diatom filter to use weekly. After that I should be set for the discuss and the heavily stocked tank.

I've researched most of my info about discus at discusasahobby and plantedtank.net. I perform 2 water changes a week currently and will up that to three with the discus.

Any suggestions are welcome. And please remember that the tank is no where near done lol.

Once again the plants on the right will be gone with the swords come in. It is a temporary look. lol

NICE love the tank, and the set up is good, once the pant grows and the bogwood gets more weed on it it will look pro

Thanks guys. I paid a pretty penny for them, but I feel they were worth it. I soaked them in the tub with hot water for a few hours. That seemed to take most of the tannins out. I cannot wait until I get enough plants to fill it in.

I agree, I really like the driftwood set-up - it makes the tank stand out. Good job! I'd love to see it once the plants grow in!

Thank you for starting this thread number1sixerfan so that we would not take the other thread off topic. I was going to say that adding more rocks and driftwood would make it more like a clown loaches natural habitat. I was also going to suggest you check out Bob's loach setups for ideas:

Thanks I'll check it out. I'll probably end up adding some rocks. I just need to find the right one that will compliment the tank. Thanks everyone.

I have to decide what to cover the aqua soil with. I really do not want to cover it, but it is so light that when the loaches are playing in it, it floats into the water making it appear dirty. I'm either going to go with black or white sand.

Any opinions on going with white or black sand with my setup?
