Hey all,
I have a 150 gallon (60" x 24" x 24") that is getting to the point of being moderately planted. I am not using c02 and don't plan to for some time, but I might get into it later.
I have 300 watts of lighting on the tank currently which puts me at 2 wpg, but I have heard a few times that with a tank this large, the way the light disperses or something it is actually more than 2 wpg compared to 2 wpg to a 30 gallon? I am very new to planted tanks so I'm not sure how much truth is to this.
My question is, currently I could switch out 2 of my bulbs to give me 440 watts of light putting me at 2.9 wpg. If I did this without adding co2 and just used flourish comprehensive, iron, and excel once or twice a week would it work, or would I have algea issues at the 2.9 wpg? All of the bulbs are aquasun 10000k. Right now the only algea I have is the green that you have to scrape off of the sides of the tank and is a pain to get off my acrylic, but not too bad.
I just put in some plants that have some gorgeous reds and I would like to try and keep them red if I can, if i can even keep them alive at all.
Some of the plants that I have are below and I would like to not kill them with too low of light. Forgive my spelling on the plants if I am off as I am new to the plant thing.
2 types of Crypts
1 type of Ludwigia that has some red to the leaves but not as nice as it had when I got it. It has got a lot of new shoots but not as much red- 1 month old
Java Fern-2 weeks old
Java Moss-2 weeks old tied to driftwood
Corcscrew Vals- growing like weeds 1 month old
Bacopa not sure on type-new
Red Melon Sword-new
Amazon Sword-new
Anubias Nana-new
Rotala Nanjenshan-new
Limnophila Hipporhaides-new
Blyxa Aubertii-new
I just dosed flourish comprehensive for the 1st time today, I do weekly 50% water changes.
Thanks for reading the long post, and thanks to all that can help me with the lighting question.:thm:
