increased lighting ---> stress?

i've had my Eclipse System 1 running on my 15 gallon for several years now and from time to time I've wanted to flirt with aquatic plants, but given the low lighting, i opted not to. However, I'm now considering "upgrading" to the 2-bulb Eclipse 1 Hood for a double increase in lighting. Would this be stressful to my fish, and/or is there any way to gradually introduce the new light i.e. maybe unscrewing the bulb for part of the day for the first week or something?

What fish? Some fish can be stressed by new lighting, but they'll usually get used to the new conditions quickly, provided water conditions remain good and there's plenty of cover.

When I upped my lighting recently, I worried a bit that it would upset the fish. I made sure I was home to watch them after the timers turned the new fixture on for the first time (just in case they were shocked), and to my surprise they didn't react at all (though, I must admit most of my fish aren't exactly Mensa members ). I wouldn't worry too much, though I agree it's a good idea to provide a little cover as OG suggests, in case your fish are sensitive at first.

Well if you are affraid that when you turn on your lights your fish will go balistic then try this by gradually increasing light in the room, first open your drapes to let in light, next turn on lamps to add more light and I would let the lamp stay on for about 5 minutes and then after 5 minutes turn on your aquarium lights and this method is great for shy fish.
