My kH is currently at 2 dkH (35.8ppm). Should I raise this before I start injecting the co2? I am currently setting up the DIY system using 3 2L bottles.

ph is at 7.2

I would not do anything to your chemistry. I have been running pressurized CO2 with a KH of 1 for 2 years. Plants LOVE it. Fish do well too...
kH of 2 IMO is ideal.

ok, I will try it. thanks!:dance2:

If you find that your kh drops and your pH along with it, a good solution is to add a bag of crushed coral to a filter. About 1/2 for a 50 gal tank to start. It takes a while for it to have an effect and over time will disolve and need replenishing.

You say about 1/2 of a bag. Are you talking about 1/2 a media bag full or 1/2 of the bag the coral comes in? cuz there are lots of different sized bags out there!

Oops- dang site rules dont let you edit so I could not add "cup". Start at about 1/2 cup for a 40-50 gal tank.

Buy a dozen claims. Eat them in your preferred way. Put a clean shell in the filter. Repeat when needed.
