I am looking to get rid of my bulky shoplights and invest in a CF for my 55 gal. Of course I want to save as much $$ as I can. In doing some net surfing, I ran across a JEBO Odyssea 48" light strip 65Wx2 for under $50! Then I found a JEBO Odyssea 48" 55Wx4 for $80. That is way less expensive than the Coralife that I was looking at. What's the deal? Is this too good to be true? Is JEBO a decent brand or will it break down? OR Do you know of other places to check for inexpensive CFs? (BTW, I have already considered the DIY route and decided it was not for me -- don't have the know-how or time right now!)

Thanks!

I've had a jebo cheapie since 4 months now, works just fine, reliable, nice design, low profile and light of weight. I paid 79.00 US. It came with 2 blue actinic lights that I did switch for 10000K dayligt bulbs. I also use it with a 48" flourescent bulb strip light for evening, after the timer shuts off, the 40 watt strip stays on until I got to bed and gives a twighlight effect for the fishes preparing to go to bed for the night, I guess :)
My jebo fit my budget and my tank just right.

I got mine on ebay from a seller named Henry Miller, he will also exchange the 2 blue blulbs for 2 whaite bulbs if you ask him to. I did not know this at te time or I would have saved some $$ but I still think my Jebo is well worth the price.

I currently use a jebo 48" 4x55 set up over my 55gal. Provides good lighting and my plants are doing well. Haven't any experience with any other brand PC lighting so I cant really compare. For the price its worth it IMO. Just make sure you get some different bulbs. The ones that come with it(usually 2x12k and 2x50/50) are not ideal for freshwater plant growth.

Just remember to factor in the cost of replacing bulbs into the cost of the Jebo and then compare that to the cost of the Freshwater Coralife. Odds are it isn't such a dramatic savings at that point.

Some people have had good luck with the Jebos, but I've read quite a few negatives also. Some seem to have taken the "I got what I paid for" feeling from Jebos.

Because of this I've decided to go ahead and buy the Freshwater Coralife (although I'm going to go with the 4x65 for my 55g) instead.

Just keep up your research and do what you feel is best.

I've seen the 4x55w on ebay also. The price is great but I am worried that 4w/g will be too much! I am trying to keep the tank low tech. Won't 4 w/g neccesitate CO2?

use a 6700 with a 10k and you should have plenty of light, but overpowering.

You get what you pay for. I had a jebo 110 watt system. The housing was pretty flimsy and one side of it routinely broke off. Fair enough. Then I noticed that my tank looked darker with the 110 watts over it than with my old 60 watt fixture - the reflector on the Jebo is an awful dull blue. So I went out and spray painted the inside of the fixture white to reflect the light better. More work. Eventually I got fed up and bought an all-glass fixture. Look at Big-Al's online for them. Little more expensive but worth it. Just to clarify, I dont think the Jebo is a bad deal, but you really do get what you pay for it.
