Alright so I'm quite curious about the fish that I have grown to love but I seem to be having a hard time finding information. It would be appreciated if anybody could share some information about Platys. Also does anybody know anything about these Dwarf Platys?

I have dwarf platys, but don't know that much about them, except that they cute and seem to have babies like crazy. I have two pregnant now, except I don't know how long gestation is. Do you know? The last two sets of babies were a suprise to me. The first was right after I bought them and the second was not long after so I think they were preg. when I got them.

the gestation period is 28 days, dwarf platies dont have many different requirements than other platies.Platies are livebearers that should be kept with other peaceful community fish at a temp of around 78. There should be at least one male for every 3 females.Males have a long thin tube behind the anal fin called the gonopodium and females have a normal, fan shaped fin.:dive2:

:D Thanks! I appreciate the info. I believe I have 3 females and a male. I also have a baby that is about a 1/2 inch long, can't tell if it is male or female.
One of the females is a baby that has grown up. They grow so fast. They are cool little fish. They actually clean the bottom of the tank. I'm learning alot about them and the more I learn, the more I like them. Bought them because they were colorful and small enough for my 10 gal. at work. I may have to take some babies home to my 29 gal when they get big enough to fend for themselves, lol.

<---5 Red Wag's they are quite homorous to watch. they swim in group almost all the time where my mollys almost never do.

platies are pretty awsome little fish. they come in pretty much any color, and its natural color. they are very easy to breed and will readily in an everyday tank. they stay pretty small, around 2 inches for males and 2¼ inches for females. they are the perfect community, beginner, and beginner breeder fish IMO.

honestly, im a bit skeptical over this "dwarf" platy thing. IMO they are just platies that the large chain stores sell a little before the regular ones. ive seen both varieties in the "sunset" forms, and the colors are the same.

hey, if they turn out to stay only about ½ inch long, im going to set up my 5 gallon again next to my 20 so i can get 4 or 5 :D.
