I'm trying to inject as much CO2 as possible with out causing the fish to gasp for O2 at surface. My tank is a 120p ADA (65 Gallons) Tap water degassed pH is 6.8 and KH is 35.8 ppm.
This is what I'm doing, I start to inject CO2 and the pH decreases to 5.9. with in 4 hours. The fish show no signs of stress but when the pH is at 5.9 it takes longer for the CO2 to decrease the pH. I don't know why? So I decided to add Baking Soda. This of course increases the pH to 6.5 and the KH increases to 107.4 ppm. Now I'm able to decrease the pH at a faster rate. When the pH get down to 6.0 pH. It takes a very very long time to get the pH to 5.9. I observed the process of injecting the CO2 for 1 hour. I see no change in the pH? What happens the the excess CO2. I do use a double drop checker, reference is 30 ppm and the indicator get yellow. Fish are still not gasping for O2!
The reason for increasing CO2 is not to kill my fish but to get rid of bba. Tom Barr emphasize more CO2 will get rid of bba. I'm trying! How can I get the CO2 to get the fish
to gasp for O2? Then I can lower the amount of CO2 being injected.
