Got home from ACA and found my gar with a fin looking like this:

I think the big boys did not enjoy their 5 day fast and one of the endlis took a "bite out of crime" in the tank. I cannot tell if this is secondary issue, or just damaged tissues. I did a 50% wc and will do that daily. Any other suggestions for treating the injured gar?

Jinkz I think your gar will be fine in a few days. Gars have some of the fastest fin regeneration of any fish out there. I'm sure the large water change will help speed the healing process. Just be sure to not use any meds, gars can be very sensitive to them.

PS. You scared me with the title of this thread. Most gar injury threads are about broken backs and noses.

I figured it would heal up fast, just wasn't sure if they were susceptible to secondary infections and if water changes would be enough. He doesn't seem at all phased by teh injury though it looks pretty gnarly in person.

Any updates? So hows it looking?

That's great to hear! I knew it would heal nice and fast. :)

yea, you would never have known this guy was shredded a week ago, he is perfectly normal. Took about 3 days for it to be mostly healed, just incredib;le.
