Hello, I recently bought3 ID sharks that are approximately 4 inches long, and I have them in a 30 gallon tank. I know that these fish are going to get larger as they get older, but i was wondering what size tank i should purchase when they do get larger. I love having fish and i want them to be as happy as they can. thankyou.

500 gallons. Not to be mean, but those things get big, I believe sometimes over 2 feet. And 3 of them would be quite a bit. They do grow slow, so a 75-100 gallon will be fine, but they will eventually outgrow that. I dont know how long it will take, probably 3-5 years. Maybe it would be best to see if you can find some more suitable tankmates.

Welcome to Aquariacentral. I hope you enjoy the forum. Feel free to ask any questions you have. Im not trying to be mean, im just trying to let you understand that those fish get to be big. 500 gallons probably wouldnt even be enough for 3 full size sharks.

IMO 500 gallons is even way too small. Those guys can reach 4 feet in length, not to mention thick in girth as well. Go to planetcatfish.com and look at the profile they have over there on the ID sharks...they have tons of pics too.
I'd say you should start building a large pond in your back yard if you can because that's going to be the only way really to keep them thriving and happy. They're very skittish and are nearly blind so when they get scared the just dart all over the place hitting anything and everything, including the sides of the tank, which once they're bigger could lead to a shattered tank and water and fish all over the floor.
IMHO these shouldn not be sold as pets because of how large they get and most people who buy them are unaware of it until much later and then have problems finding new homes for them because they don't have the space to adequetly house these fish. :(
If you have the space and money for a much larger tank then go for nothing less than 1500 gallons or bigger!!!
Good luck and hope all works out well for you! :)
