I got to watch some CPD sex from foreplay through completion today (my daughter napped at a convenient time). It was very interesting, especially the end.

The pair (I hadn't seen these two mating before--it's usually a different male and female) were circling and waving at each other for a good 20 minutes or so. Much longer than what I've seen in the past. But the male would never make his move. Finally, my dominant male (MUCH redder fins than my other males), previously uninvolved, swims over and very quickly does the wrap-around with the female! And that was it. He swam off, she swam off, and the poor guy that did all the work swam off. I don't think he even got her number.

Very interesting. Anyone ever see anything like this?

Well, they don't pair off, so I'd say your boy was trying to get some play while the alpha was away. I'm reminded of wolves & I think meercats? The lessers will at least attempt, but the alpha is alpha for a reason & will intercede (if he catches 'em). Not to say the other boys will never get to finish, but your dominant is the most assertive, observant, and earnest. Omnipresent CPD? :grinyes:

This all coming as speculation from the owner of a CPD bachelor pad, but avid watcher of Animal Planet.

I'm sorry, but when you start watching fish porn you need help

He wasn't watching "porn", he was watching his fish's mating behavior.

Sex & foreplay do not = porn. and that's all I think we're allowed to go into that topic. :D
