When I was at the lfs this past week picking up my snow white socolfis, I had a bit if a look around. They had in one tank some of the biggest, most colorful discus I had ever seen. Usually their discus are about as round as the top of a coffee mug, but these guys were huge! bigger than my hand. I would say at least the size of a small plate. When I was checking out I asked about them. The guy working said they had gotten a whole bunch in from a local breeder. The breeder kept them in 29 gallon tanks and did daily water changes. I was shocked! Here are super healthy large discus, that were raised in very small tanks.
I'm not saying anyone should go do this, I can't imagine how these fish turned around. I just think it was an interesting story. Seems like lots of clean water can go a long way!

I was also curious at thoughts on this story. I wasn't sure what to think.

Breeders often use 29g for pairs. Yeah I hear you on the size of some adults! I thought 6 inches or so was usual until I visited a hobby breeder. Some of her discus were more like 8 inches, thick & gorgeous! An real eyeopener though I'll be happy whatever size my juvies get to be.

Wow...sounds like a beauty!
