Interesting Facts

My grandmother always used to quote: "When being chased by an alligator try to swim in a zig-zag pattern because alligators can't turn corners very well."

I am not sure where she got it, but I am pretty sure I would get eaten in that circumstance.
actually it works, to some extent. that's what seals do to escape orcas or great whites, because their turning radius is much smaller than the larger animals'.

but people probably can't swim as well as a gator, so it probably wouldn't work for us!

It made my day... I definitely learned something.

At least I am not the only one who knows fairly "useless" things. Seems I forget the important ones, but I remember the stupid things. :)

BTW - There is nothing wrong with being a professional nerd... I am quite proud of it!

Guess you really do learn something new everyday

thanks for the reassurance! I'm probably going to end up teaching college, so I gave up worrying about being a "nerd" loooong ago. I actually just want to be a slacker and live like a college student forever (by teaching community college :D).

I've heard about the alligator thing before but I think I was always told "run" in a zig zag pattern. I think I would pass out and drown from fear if a gator came after me while I was swimming anyways. I always get paranoid while walking along lagoons.
