Interesting Fish Suggestions Please

Due to a recent unfortunate accident my 72 gallon tank has become empty and I'm trying to decide what to put in it. I'd like to try a whole bunch of one type of fish as I've never done that before.

It will be well planted, with CO2 injection, ph about 6.4-6.6. I was thinking it would be fun to try something aggressive like exodons but I don't know anything about them or if they would work. Any plant compatible aggressive fish?

The other idea I had was 3-4 SAEs, a couple BN plecs, and about 15-20 congo tetras. Open to any suggestions feel free to post
 
I have the bowfront too. They get to be about 3.5" at max and that size tank could easily hold 15-20 in my opinion. I have 2 canister filters (2213 and 404) and biological filtration from plants as well.
 
I've never owned them myself, but I saw some Congo Tetra today that were a tad over 4" at a LFS. I've read that they can get larger than that.

Exodons would do nicely in that tank...
...or how about a single Erythrinus erythrinus? That's definately my vote.
 
make a saltwater tank. they are worth every penny u spend. also, if u have good lights because u used to have plants, u could get some nice corals.
 
hmm im gunna say if you want to go crazy you should try for a all dwarf puffer tank. im not sure if that would work but from what iv read you need about three gallons per pufferso that comes to 24 puffers but i would go with 20 (if this at all possible). 20 dwarf puffers in a heavly planted tank i think that would look so cool it would be crazyness
 
go with the exodons they are cool i have a small school myself and would definatly recomend them. around 50 would do great in there. they need to be crowded. i have heard of others matching gallons in the tank to the number of fish, but that could get expensive heres some pics of mine

Congoes can get up to 5" (and in rarer cases, 6"). 4" as an adult is more common though.

I am partial to congos...I won't mention rainbows because I know you had those before.

What about one large school of small fish? Such as some of the smaller rasboras/tetras?

Or Emperor tetras.

I've seen a tank stocked with a school of pearl gouramis. It was beautiful. I can't vouch for how well that would hold up though.

Angelfish tank.

I really love my hatchet fish. I wish I had about three times more of them. You could incorporate those somehow.

Or, if you want to spend a fortune (literally) you could buy a big school of Puntius denisonii:D

What happened to the tank? Whatever it is, it sounds very bad and I'm sorry:(
 
Thanks for all the good suggestions, now I really can't decide! The dwarf puffer idea is tempting as they are a fish I've always wanted to keep.

Will I still be able to have algae eaters (siamese, bristlenose) in with Exodons?

Leopardess I'm not sure what happened but I believe it had to do with my CO2 tank running out. The pearl gourami idea sounds very intriguing. That would be very calm and relaxing I think. Angels would also be nice I think.

Here's my list so far, I'd like to choose just one tho:

angelfish, pearl gouramies, exodons, dwarf puffs, congo tetras, other tetra maybe
